Sheila K. Bogart, O.D.
Dr. Sheila Bogart is a long time resident of Lake County. She completed
her BA in Biology with a minor in Spanish at Indiana University Northwest
in 1987, participating in Student Guides, Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor
Society, and Intramural volleyball.
She went on to Indiana University School of Optometry where she
received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1991. While there she
participated in the student chapter of VOSH (an organization devoted to
supplying eyecare to those less fortunate) and was director of the IU VOSH
Free Clinic. She also sang in the Bloomington women’s chorus.
During her last year of education, Dr. Bogart interned at the White
Mountain Apache reservation and the Cleveland VA Hospital. Both of
these locations provided an extensive experience in the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Upon graduation in 1991, Dr. Bogart joined the practice of Dr. Robert
Moses where she was employed as an associate doctor for 14 years.
Her experience there expanded her knowledge in the treatment of all types
of ocular problems. She is experienced in the treatment of glaucoma
and diabetic eye problems as well as routine and complex eyeglass prescriptions
and contact lenses. In 2006, Dr. Bogart joined Dr. Smith
in caring for patients in Crown Point and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Bogart enjoys primary practice optometry, following patients from
youngest to oldest in the family over the years. She is fluent in
Spanish and has enjoyed participating in eye care missions to Latin America.
Dr. Bogart is active in the Northwest Indiana Optometric Society, the Indiana
Optometric Association and is a member of the American Optometric Association.
She participates in Vision USA and is a member of the Lake County Head
Start Health Advisory Committee.
Dr. Bogart resides in Crown Point and is an adjunct faculty member at
IU Northwest where she lectures in Biology.
